Twitter is one of the newest and one of the hottest social media sites around. Twitter is a microblogging platform, which means that you communicate with others through instant, short content posts. If you want to use the Internet for marketing, Twitter is today’s hot spot.
Twitter gives you the opportunity to reach your target audience in a direct and instant way. To use twitter effectively for marketing purposes, there are some specific things you need to keep in mind.
#1 – Keep It Meaningful
To be successful in your Twitter marketing efforts, you need to offer your followers relevant and useful information. This means that posting links to sales pages all day long will probably just get you ignored. You need to give your followers something they can use, beyond the product or service you’re promoting. If you don’t, people will think of you as a spammer and stop following you or stop reading your tweets.
#2 – Keep It Focused
Successful Twitter marketers don’t bounce around from one topic to another. They are focused on a specific niche, whether it’s an interest area or a particular demographic niche. If it isn’t relevant to your niche, don’t post it on Twitter.
#3 – Know Your Product
If you want to get the most out of your Twitter marketing efforts, you need to know your product inside and out. It’s likely you’ll get questions about the product you’re promoting, and get into conversations about the product. If you want people to buy something on your recommendation, you need to be an expert about it.
#4 – Know Your Audience
You also need to know what kind of people are following you on Twitter. If you’ve been smart about how you gain followers, chances are pretty good that your audience shares some common interests. Use those interests to promote and market your products.
#5 – Communicate Effectively
Part of being an authority in your niche means being able to articulate yourself well. If your tweets are full of grammatical or factual errors, people aren’t going to listen to what you have to say. While followers don’t expect grammatical or spelling perfection, a severe deficiency in these areas will push some users away and will harm your overall credibility.
#6 – Participate in the Community
Twitter is a social networking tool. Twitter is meant to be a conversation of sorts. While you don’t have to get into conversations with every follower, responding to replies and direct messages will make your followers feel like you are interested in them, even if they personally aren’t the ones involved in the conversation. Seek out conversations in your niche, and be ready to participate in some real back-and-forth discussions.
#7 – Tweak Your Profile
Your Twitter profile is one of the most important tools in your Twitter marketing arsenal. Make sure your profile is interesting, pleasing to look at and relevant. Tell your followers something about yourself, and why they should follow you.
Doing these seven things won’t guarantee success in your Twitter marketing efforts, but ignoring them is a sure way to fail.
